One of the perks of knowing Mathematical tricks is you get to tell the answer before someone takes calculator out. Squaring of two digit number is what we(especially people related to STEM field) encounter commonly. I am going to tell a trick regarding squaring of 2-digits number which is from Vedic Mathematics.

Let's take a number 22. We have to square 22 here.
Step 1: Add its last digit to the number.
i.e 22 + 2 = 24
Step 2: Multiply the sum by 10.
i.e 24 * 10 = 240
Step 3: Multiply the product by first number.
i.e 240 * 2 = 480
Step 4: Add square of the last number to the sum.
i.e. 480 + square of 2
= 480 + 4
= 484
And, yay, 484 is the square of 22! We got that.
This method can also be generalized to higher digit numbers but that involves some work. It may not be as fun as it is for 2-digits numbers.
Why not try yourself this technique and have fun?

ReplyDeleteSquare 22 =
Square of first digit = 4
Sum of cross multiplication of both = (2X2) + (2X2) = 8
Square of second digit = 4
Write these one after another
Answer is = 484
